I’ve had the great privilege of being able to express my art and my passions in many different venues. The following are a few photos from my Adventures over the last few years. Double-click a photo for a higher-res version.
The Manuel Luz Trio, featuring Matt Sawhill on bass and then drummer Steve Liberti, performing at the Town Center Amphitheater in El Dorado Hills, California in 2008.
Above from left to right: Me, Mike Pachelli, Randy Stonehill, Bob Kilpatrick, Rick DuPea, and Kirk Allen during a tent concert in Rome, Italy in 2008. This was the first of two trips to Italy with Bob Kilpatrick Ministries.
Speaking to worship leaders and other Christian artists at the Christian Musician Summit in Seattle, Washington, in 2009. This is probably about the incendiary moment in my speech when I tell everyone that Biblical beauty is objective and not in the eye of the beholder.
Performing American rock and roll on a street corner deep in the heart of downtown Naples, Italy, in 2009. You should have seen the looks on the faces of the people living in the high-rises on either side of the street. We were even stopped by the police—just like the Beatles, baby.
I was a plenary speaker and performer at the Creative Church Conference hosted by the Vineyard Church in Boise, Idaho in both 2011 and 2014. Note: In the lower of these two photos, I’m leading a drum circle of non-drumming artists, using it as a metaphor for Biblical community.
Touring the Republic of Ecuador with Compassion International, led by my good friend Bob Kilpatrick in 2011. I was blessed to have my son, Justin, with me on this trip.
Teaching and leading a workshop for worship leaders in Legazpi, Philippines in 2012 and 2014 on behalf of the Bicol Center for Christian Leadership. I have a long-term relationship with BCCL as a visiting teacher and performer.
Leading worship at a Men’s Retreat at one of my favorite venues of all time—Zephyr Point in South Lake Tahoe, Nevada in 2012.
The CD Release Concert for our latest album, “Unraveled.” The Manuel Luz Trio currently features Matt Sawhill on basses (center) and Chad Jackson on drums (right). For more photos of ML3, hit it here.
Performing some spontaneous improv with tap dancer Andrew Nemr at the Creative Church Conference in Boise, Idaho in 2014. Though I’ve performed before with visual artists and dancers, this performance with Andrew one of the most frightening artistic things I’ve ever done.
Speaking to literary artists at the Write to Inspire Conference in 2014 in Roseville, California. Please contact me if you’d like me to speak or perform at your arts conference or other event.
Co-leading worship (as well as speaking) with my good friend Jim Heinze at New Hope Christian Fellowship in Sacramento, California in 2015.
Having some fun with my keytar during an eighties-themed celebration during my church’s 30 Year Anniversary in 2014. Yeah, it’s been quite a ride.
