LONG BIO (AUTHOR/SPEAKER)
Manuel Luz has a BS in Aeronautical Engineering and an MBA in Management, which makes him perfectly qualified to be a Creative Arts Pastor. Truth be told, he became a rocket engineer to finance his self-described “rock star dream,” one which was interrupted when God got a hold of him. He eventually became a pastor leading a worship community and a community of artists, and has been in full-time ministry for the past 32 years. “It’s not rocket science,” he admits readily.
Manuel has served at Oak Hills Church in Folsom, California for over 25 years. He is passionate about worship, coffee, the Las Vegas Raiders, and the intersections of faith and the arts. As a songwriter, keyboardist, author, teacher and speaker, he has ministered in the United States and Canada, as well as to Germany, Italy, Ecuador, Hungary, Croatia, the Bahamas, and the Philippines.

Manuel’s book, Imagine That: Discovering Your Unique Role as a Christian Artist (Moody Publishers) is a practical and personal theology of the arts. His current book, Honest Worship: From False Self to True Praise, (InterVarsity Press), addresses the importance of spiritual formation with worship. Check out his thought-provoking blog, “Adventures in Faith and Art” (www.manuelluz.com), or his five solo albums (iTunes, Spotify, etc).
Manuel’s creativity has recently extended into the inventor/manufacturer category. He and good friend and Christian music icon, Bob Kilpatrick, co-invented a musical instrument they call the WalkaBout™. A fully-amplified, strap-worn percussion instrument, this exciting new hand drum was awarded Best of Show at the world-renowned NAMM Show. Look for it on their website, walkaboutdrum.com, or online at musiciansfriend.com or guitarcenter.com.
Manuel has one amazing wife, four amazing children, and three way too amazing grandchildren, and lives in El Dorado Hills, California.
